The Counterweight Programme is a year-long programme delivered by Counterweight and supported by GPs and nurses at Queens Road. Counterweight provides the digital programme, educational content and app-based support, while GPs and nurses at Queens Road deliver clinical assessments, extended consultations and ongoing medical support throughout the programme.
The programme is generally suitable for any person living with obesity. The Counterweight Programme is generally suitable for any person living with overweight or obesity and is aimed at individuals wishing to achieve a clinically significant weight loss.
Programme structure:
Weeks 2, 4, 8 and 16: extended nurse consultations
Weeks 0, 12, 28, 40 and 52: extended GP consultation
GP and nurse consultations are used to review progress, provide medical oversight and support goal-setting.
Cost:
Expected extended GP consultations (x5)*: 5 x £188 = £940
Expected extended nurse consultations (x4)*: 4 x £105 = £420
Registration fee: £75 (reduced to £50 when paid in full) – this provides access to the Counterweight app, which is an essential part of the programme.
Based on fortnightly support for the first month, monthly support for three months, and three-monthly support thereafter.
*All consultations are extended appointments; the number shown is a minimum number; the actual number of necessary consultations may vary according to the patient. All consultations are to be paid in full at the time of consultation, cost based on the pay on the date rate and before grant from Social Security. Prices are subject to change in line with Practice consultation fees.
How to join the Counterweight Programme:
Seek the advice of your Practice GP or Nurse to find out if you would be suitable for a weight Management Programme or make an appointment to see a member of the Weight Clinic Team before you sign up.
Alternatively, you can call the surgery and ask to speak to one of the Weight Clinic admin staff to book your first appointment at the Weight Clinic and get you started if deemed suitable for the programme.
