HEALTHCARE IN GUERNSEY – A REFRESHING ALTERNATIVE
Guernsey operates outside the NHS, offering a unique model of hybrid healthcare delivery. We are one of three privately owned Primary Care Practices, each serving approximately one third of the island’s population.
Patients are encouraged to, and typically hold private health insurance, with additional support provided by the States of Guernsey for those on income support. Secondary and inpatient care is delivered by the Medical Specialist Group and is a consultant lead, free at the point of use service under a government contract. There is a modern general hospital with an Emergency Department, onsite mental health services and operating theatres, and a separate, fully staffed Out-of-Hour’s service, meaning no routine OOH commitments for our GPs.

OUR PRACTICE - INNOVATIVE, SUPPORTIVE AND GP-LED
Our friendly, pioneering and progressive private Practice is actively engaged in transforming health services in Guernsey. We operate two busy surgery sites (Our brand-new Queens Road Medical Centre and the quintessentially Guernsey Le Longfrie Surgery), with a team of 90 staff including Partner and Associate GPs, Nurses, HCAs, Physiotherapists, and dedicated administrative and operational teams.
Caring for c.23,000 patients, we deliver exceptional relationship based general practice and are proud of our preventative approach to healthcare and our commitment to innovation. In 2020, we launched the first genomic screening programme in Primary Care for Familial Hypercholesterolaemia, delivering outstanding results. We operate a traditional general practice that cares for the Island’s population providing holistic family medicine with named patient lists. We are passionate about greener practice and equity, having been awarded silver in the Green Impact for Health in 2025.
Compared with the NHS, we offer lower list sizes, excellent continuity of care, strong administrative support, greater GP autonomy and consistently high patient satisfaction.
